Senator Subramanyam Passes Middle School Career Technical Education Bill in Key Committee

Subramanyam Joined by Student Advocates to Expand Educational Opportunities

Ashburn, VA – Today, Senator Suhas Subramanyam, Obama White House Alumnus and Candidate for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, helped pass SB 707, a bill that allows for career technical education clubs to be created at the middle school level. The bill passed out of the House of Delegates K-12 Education Subcommittee today with a unanimous vote.

The bill would permit each public middle school and high school to establish career and technical education student organizations, regardless of whether such school offers career and technical education courses. This helps middle and high school students have exposure to different careers at an early stage, helping students prepare for their educational and professional pathways.

“I’m always glad to advocate for my constituents - but today, I was proud to be joined by some impressive middle schoolers who did the advocacy themselves,” said Senator Subramayam. “Thanks to them, our bill to expand career and technical student organizations to middle schoolers passed a key House committee unanimously.”

Senator Subramanyam was joined by Farmwell Station Middle School students in his testimony advocating for SB 707, including: William Gandhi, Anvi Allada, Yuki Vadlamudi, Arjun Deo, Trisha Kamat, and Ethan Mills.

Senator Suhas Subramanyam has dedicated his life to public service as a State Senator, Obama White House advisor, Capitol Hill staffer, and as a Loudoun volunteer firefighter/EMT. In Richmond, he has worked across the aisle to pass gun violence prevention bills, protect democracy, and defend abortion rights. Senator Subramanyam is best positioned to keep VA-10 in Democratic hands because he represents more VA-10 constituents than any of the 16 primary election candidates, and he has consistently outperformed the Democratic ticket and delivered for his constituents. Suhas resides in Ashburn, Virginia (in VA-10) with his wife, Miranda, and their two daughters.
